As close to the ultimate bad beat as you can get (non-poker)
Sorry I haven't been around in a while, and I frankly do not expect to be around for a while. My wife's been in intensive care for the last two weeks, and has been on a ventilator in a medical-induced coma for the last 11 days. While she will likely eventually pull through, at this point it is by no means a given.
Oh yeah, poker-related content: sometimes, things happen that make you remember that poker is pretty fuckin' insignificant.
I'll try to pop back in at some point, but please don't hold me to a "when".
Thanks.

Thanks, guys. As of tonight, she's still in ICU, and still on the ventilator. No real significant improvement (yet).
She's undergoing a tracheotomy tomorrow, because it's extremely hazardous to remain on the vent too long. The hope is that be getting her off the vent and vent/related sedation requirements, her own body will begin to fight the pneumonia at a greater rate.

Hey guys, just wanted to pop in with some better news. As of today, my wife's still in ICU, but they've lifted her sedation, and we think we've really turned a corner. She's still on the ventilator, however, and is likely to be for at least several more days, followed by months in a pulmonary rehab facility. But honestly, I can take all of that knowing that she's making it. Jeez, she's been in ICU for five weeks now. But it's getting better.

Hey ya'll, just thought I'd post a quick update. My wife's still in ICU, and is still on the trach tube and ventilator, but she is now fully off sedation and is alert. The pneumonia has dissipated, but her lungs remain quite damaged, scarred and weak. Her spirits are good, but we've had some occasionally "interesting" bumps in the road along the way. Still, her prognosis is good, and we're starting to evaluate long term acute care hospitals.
We're hoping we can move her out of ICU sometime over the next couple of weeks. Jeez, it's now her 51st day in the hospital, and 49th day in ICU. But we are moving forward.
Cheers, ya'll, may you find the felt soft.

Hey Mondo it sounds like you have been through a lot man. I know what it is like to have a loved one in the hospital and all you can do is watch the doctors work and trust theses complete strangers with you loved ones life. It is kinda impossible to explain it, you just have to be there. Just know that my thoughts are with you and your wife and I am sure that everything will turn out okay. Again, stay strong my man!

Mondo, I haven't been around much either and was shocked to hear of this. Has there been any improvement? Wishing you both to have a good turnaround.
