Thursday (tonight) at Piflers in Lakewood.

Post  PoWdA on Thu Jun 12, 2008 2:09 pm

I might go play at Piflers tonight. I think it is APT stars (remnant of Amateur Poker Tour) and I don't really care, I jsut wanna play some cards. So anyone want to head to Piflers in Lakewood, near Green Mountain on Colfax and Simms tonight for some free cards?

<---- looking right at Son.

Both my life and my freedom are long since gone. They're buried under the old pine tree in the back yard... I'll go out to leave flowers at the gravesite, but even that requires a 3 day notice and a babysitter...

Damn...

it was worth a shot. Bottom line for me: I am going home to play online, if I bust out with time to play Piflers I am going. If I am told I cannot go I am seriously making a break for it. I need to do something tonight, work is driving me crazy.

Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in this big round room with no windows. I died in that room. Then they buried me in a big brown box in a big deep hole. There were spiders in that hole. Spiders drive me crazy.

Reading that is soothing compared to what I have been doing all day..

Some IT guy messed up so for about a week every order placed through our Department did not Sync up with another vital program we have so now there are about 7,000 orders, contacts, and locations we are entering manually into the second program which isn't nearly as user friendly as the usual program we use to put orders in.

I think the IT guy here should be demoted to "data entry specialist" and not be able to do his normal job again until he gets every one of these orders, contacts, etc entered in the system right.

lol... I was wondering if the Green Mountain reference was referring to me.

I've been swamped at work and every time I go to post something someone starts yelling, "Son, I need your help with..." It's been a rough day and I don't see it letting up anytime soon, in fact I will be here until around 7 tonight.

That kind of gives away my answer for Piflers. I doubt if I would make it in time and if I did have time. I would enjoy taking all your chips though.

How was the game other then that? Same old bar poker game I take.

I didn't even leave the office until about 8:30 last night. Should have stopped by to watch your set get cracked.

I generally don't say that one place has worse players than another (as far as bar poker) but honestly, this was wayyyyyyy worse than most bar poker donkfests. I mean, there were 2 players who acted very serious and seemed to play good solid game that made some simply astonishing plays. One guys called 3/4 of his stack with Q7d against an all-in in MP, don't ask me why, and got mad when he lost. Another guy was wearing his HPT hat and cardplayer shirt and was taking the game way to serious, obviously thinks he is good, he was even reading a poker book before the game. Anyway this brilliant player calls a raise and a re-raise pre-flop. flop comes AQ2 rainbow with a bet and a call and he calls. Turn is another Q one bet one guy folds and our hero pushes. Other guy calls and flips up AQ. HPT guy flips 52 offsuit and begins to berate the guy with AQ. I couldn't fucking believe it. I mean seriously un-ficking believable. Even the "good players" were fucking awful. I think there was one kid at my table who had half an idea of how to play.

Does that answer your question? Also "Denverpokerstarz" or whatever are a total class act. starting 15 minutes late, 20 minute breaks (or as long as it took the dealer to smoke 2 cigarettes and bs with other people that were on the patio), the head dealer seemed to up the blinds at his own discresion, the dealer saying things like "wow thats a lot of spades on the board", etc...

I might play again sometime but not because I think the game is good but because it is the closest bar poker to my house and for no other reason than that.

Wow, that's some pretty horrible play. That's funny about the HPT guy. When I was dealing these were the die hard poker fans that thought they were big shit. I loved listening to these guys bitch about how a person didn't play right or called with a mediocre hand. Just cracks me up! Especially in a bar game, can you really take the game seriously? Good times.

Yeah it is funny to watch. He had all the lame poker stuff going on: an HPT hat, a Cardplayer shirt, an iPod, the Moneymaker glasses, a stupid little card protector, and of course he had to read a poker book at the game in front of everyone. Pretty funny. The guy was terrible on a good day.

There was one kid there who was decent and I picked up a near flawless tell on him (which is rare to find a tell that good or any tell at all for that matter). He would do the "flip" trick with his chips and hold the same pose whenever he had a big hand. 3 times he did it, 3 times he had the nuts. I watched him in about 10 other hands where he mucked and never did he do the pose. I only mention it as he was the most solid player at the table and it is so wierd to see such a blatent tell, almost like he was doing it on purpose.

One good thing I can say about the tour is that they have nice tables. I mean nice looking. There is no functionality as there is no chip tray, the dealers deal over chip racks if they wish, that would annoy me to death. The players were god awful.

Oh yeah, 2 tips if you play with denverpokerstarz or whatever:

1) Bring a small 1" x 1 1/2" sticky pad and a pen. When you switch tables the dealer gives you a sticky note with your chip count on it so the dealer at the new table can give you chips and they don't have to mix thier racks up. I see basic strategy for changing tables as writing down a number slightly more than the chip average on your own sticky note and handing this to the dealer at your new table. This is only if you are low. If ou are big feel free to add a 0 to your chip total.

2) Stop by Rocky Mountain gaming and buy a sleeve of the exact Yellow 1K or Pink 5K chips they use on thier tour. Why not, they sell them right down the street.

Those are just a few tips. For playing at Piflers. the game is smooth other than the 20 minute breaks and not starting on time. The whole sticky not thing slows things down pretty bad but other than that it is'nt too bad.
