My ankle
wtf?
I woke up and it is red and swollen and it looks like it is all messed up. I have no idea what happened but I am probobly going to the hospital after work. The wierd part is that there is no pain unless I push on the red swollen part. It is just wierd to have your body look so f'd up and have it not hurt. Might post pics later. That is all.

Re: My ankle
Good luck. I'm pretty sure the doctor's advice will be something like,
"Don't touch the red swollen part."
Actually, anytime I hear of stuff like that, with no obvious physical event, I worry you got bit by something.
I got bit on the forehead about 2.5 years ago in my sleep by a brown recluse, in my own home. It wasn't pretty -- I still have the scars. My whole face swelled up like a rageddy ass beaten tomato can boxer.

Maybe it's your bodys way of telling you that you shouldn't drive the Bug....
I agree with Mondo, though. Anytime you get something like that with no other leading injuries, it could be a bug bite. Most of the bites I've seen had a white center (kinda like a zit, but 100x bigger), with a bright red pair of dots at the point (bite mark).
Only other thing could have been a rolled ankle in the middle of the night while taking care of kiddo. I'm always stepping on shit when I get up for my kiddos. You'd think I would learn to clear a path when I lay them down at night...

Re: My ankle
It never hurts to put ice on it. If it's a rolled ankle or a bug bite, ice will help numb any pain and help minimize swelling (100% sure this is what the doc will tell you too).
If it's a bite, another indicator would be an increasing level of pain and swollen-ness as the day goes on. I would monitor the area to see if/how much the swelling is going up or down (even if you're using ice).
Rolled ankles typically have a little more pain involved (especially when walking), but not always. My wife and her infinite smoothness always seems to run into furniture and ends up with large, red, swollen legs, ankles & feet. They never seem to hurt except with pressure (poking it).

Re: My ankle
Okay I just took my sock off on my lunch break and my foot looks like crap.
Definetly not a bug bite, I am thinking torn muscles or something. It looks pretty bad and is really really swollen. Either way I will be there to donate tomorrow.

Re: My ankle
That sucks man! Hope it's not too serious and you can get it fixed up quickly.
Talking about bug bites. I got bit about 3 months ago in my sleep. Started to get this pain in my lower back and chest area. I thought it was from playing online poker in bed and not sitting in a very healthy position with hours of late night play. Then I noticed two red dots right underneath my rib cage. They started to swell and finally figured it to be a spider bite. I still have a couple of scars from this incident.

Re: My ankle
Danny,
You need to get to the hospital ASAP. This could be a cellulitis (acute infection) that's likely to get in to your blood pretty quickly if you don't get some IV antibiotics quickly.
Could also be a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) - basically a blood clot from blood pooling in your calf - that could potentially dislodge and cause a pulmonary embolism (blood clot goes in to your lungs, can end up in your heart = bad).
If it's warm to the touch and has red streaks going away from it it's probably cellulitis, if not it could be the DVT. It might not be either, but you don't want to mess with either of these things and it can't hurt to rule them out.
Not a doctor and didn't play one on TV -------------------------------->

They just put one in right down the street from my house. I think that may have done it.

Re: My ankle
That's not likely a DVT or PE. Honestly it looks like a traumatic injury - sprain/strain. You would usually remember doing something though. You haven't rolled your ankle recently?
Ice, elevate, pressure dressing. You should probably get it checked out if it doesn't improve within a day or two. Any bleeding disorders in the family? Factor 8 deficeincy? Looks like some pretty good bruising for an incident that you don't recall.

Yeah I also have a fat....Stallion wrote:Also, you have fat feet.
stomach.
What did you think I was going to say?
I feel the same way David. It looks like a sprain/break/something "traumatic" like you said. I am going to elevate it and give it time. It is just odd to me that the way it appears it doesn't hurt for shit. I also don't remember anything happening and I havn't had anything to drink in 2 weeks. Fuckin wierd.
Re: My ankle
Wait, I've got it. Livor mortis!
of course this would mean that you're dead.
You should probably get this checked out sooner rather than later. They should run some coag tests on you. Echymosis (bruising) with no traumatic injury can be a sign of a bleeding disorder. Are you on blood thinners for anything? Take a lot of aspirin?

Re: My ankle
No. I generally don't take medicine.
I figure since I have a 3 day weekend I would just relax. If it looks bad or worse Sunday morning then I will go to the doc.

Re: My ankle
Also I scab well if this is along the same lines. Actually as I was making that last post I had to stop because I accidentally ripped off a giant 3 inch by 3 inch scab I had on my elbow from when I dumped ems scooter a few weeks ago. I dont think I have issues with thin blood. I have hurt myself a million times in my life, I have bled a lot, and always healed fine. Is this along the same lines?

Yeah, that's my thinking anyway. Bruising for no apparent reason can be related to anemia or any number of clotting disorders. Keep an eye on it. If you develop more in different places get it checked out. They should at least check your platelets, PT (prothrombin), PTT (partial thromboplastin) - coagulation tests - and CBC (complete blood count).
Also, if you die over the weekend it's not my fault.

I think for now I wait. I have it elevated and iced and Em is going to do a pressure wrap (She used to be an EMT).
