Easily (at least most of the time)

UTG limped, then shoved to a raise. Looks like AK most of the time, and AA/KK rare enough to be discounted, and if you put him on AK, with two limpers behind, at least one of them has at least one out UTG's outs.

Everything's read dependent, how was villian playing at your table previous?

Although you want to isolate with queens (hence your raise of 25% of your stack & 5x BB), I agree it's a tough call. I probably would call here. Although you fear an over-pair, I think you can reasonably assume he has either a mildly strong Ace or King (AT, A9, KJ, KT, K9 possibly suited) or more likely a medium pair (8's - J's) because of his limp from UTG. I would read this as him originally wanting to see a cheap flop, or even wanting to call-reraise to show table dominance toward the new player. I seriously doubt anyone really slow plays aces or kings at these lower levels tourneys (<$11) even this deep into it.

I call. Against his assumed Ace or King you are a favorite or against his middle pair you are a dominant favorite.

The reason I posted this is that this is exactly the way players at this level play. Always trying to get tricky with aces. The deciding factor ended up being that it was a cheap ass tourney so losing wasn't going to tilt me too bad. I have played 8 tourneys today now, no cashes.

Oddly enough no tiliting. After all of the tourneys combined I think I am down close to $150. It sucks but oh well.

I fucking hate tournament poker, and I am okay with that.

I've already lost at least that much of my recent Bodog win. More of the same -- I take down a $12+1, then enter a $40+4 with only 150 players, and see nothing but 92o for two hours, and end up going out two tables before the $$$ when shove/fold time hits me much earlier than it should.

Or I get rivered in the FTP 50/50 when a flopped set holding would give me a 6th place chipstack 1/2 through first hour....and instead, massage a 1/2 starting stack to get close to the money, but not close enough...

Yeah let me re-cap a few of my losses today. I really need to start saving every losing hand history so on days like today, I can whine with evidence.

A2 vs my AQ = bye bye my stack when a 2 comes on the river

in a HORSE tourney. I have rolled up kings and re-raise preflop. some dumbass with like J24 suited in clubs calls 2 bets cold and calls 2 bets cold on 4th when he bricks and he gets a flush on the river as I raise and re-raise every street. I never filled up.

KK no good vs JJ all in pre

I think my onloy loss when I wasn't ahead the whole time today was when I was a shortstck and flopped 2 pair when everyone limped. Some douchewand had limped with QQ hit a set on the river when I pushed.

serenity now.

<-- really not that upset, jsut documenting.

I agree with Ian.

honestly my biggest preflop fold was on the bubble of a 45 person tourney (live) with AK suited in the BB.

the action was 6 handed and went standard raise, short stack reraised all in, button who was even shorter called all in and then it was to me, I quickly mucked and orginal raiser called.......nobody had a pair....hands were orginal raiser A Q , KQ, and button had AK as well....AK held up...still was fine with my fold....as I went on to chop 1st and 2nd.

If UTG has a huge hand KK or AA would he push all in or just pop you for a 3-bet? I agree with that I snap call and hope he doesn't flip the kings or aces. Rough day at the tables...variance can be such a bitch.

vYeah pretty rough/average lately. I am ITM and doing allright in a tourney right now but I have to final table to break even for the day. It isn't out of hte question for me to FT this thing but if I don't I am down a decent amount for the day.
