vegas question
So I have never stayed at the Rio before... Is it better to take the highway there?
I never let them take me on the highway when staying on the strip cause it's a rip off but I think at 8:30 on a Friday night it might be best to avoid the strip
(yes I am this cheap)

It's always faster taking the highway, especially at the time you're going. I used to think that taking the highway was longer, but after being stuck in some of the traffic jams on the strip, it's much better to take the highway. Paradise road is also a good alternative.idh78 wrote:So I have never stayed at the Rio before... Is it better to take the highway there?

To get back to your direct question. You will be better taking the highway from the airport to the Rio... as long as there are no accidents on I-15.
Re: vegas question
highway is more expensive which is why I never take it
But yes it will be faster to the rio for sure

Re: vegas question
If your looking to save money, you could always take a shuttle. Last time I was there I got a shuttle straight to the Mirage for cheap. I don't recall the exact amount, but it worked out fine.
It's kind of funny to save money on travel while at the same time call a $40 raise on a draw.

Re: vegas question
The shuttles are around $7.50, however, they stop at all of the resorts on the Strip and then the Rio last.
If you want to really be cheap, just take a hike north from the airport and take the bus for $2 to the north (108 line) and get a transfer to the west at Flamingo (202). The Rio is on Flamingo to the west of the interstate.

Re: vegas question
found out something interesting....if the cab driver doesn't take the shortest/cheapest route....you can call the Taxicab Authority and report them....they are supposed wait for someone to arrive before you settle the fare....but since the fine is so big($200) most of them will just take off causing your cab ride to be $0

Re: vegas question
Are you serious? When I landed in June 07 I knew exactly how to get to my hotel. I was guiding the driver and serisously about 1 block away the cabbie takes a completly random U turn. I could see the fucking hotel a block ahead and this asshole flipped a random bitch and started acting lost. I wasa seriously like dude what are you doing, it is right there. After adding about $2 to his meter he flips around and drives back. I get to the hotel and give him a $20 and the fare was a few bucks less. He REFUSED to give me my change saying he needed a tip. I got in a minor yelling match with the guy and long story short I never got my change. I fucking HATE that guy, I hope he took the $20, ran it up to 1 mil on craps, and was hit by a bus when he left the casino. What an asshole.idh78 wrote:found out something interesting....if the cab driver doesn't take the shortest/cheapest route....you can call the Taxicab Authority and report them....they are supposed wait for someone to arrive before you settle the fare....but since the fine is so big($200) most of them will just take off causing your cab ride to be $0
Re: vegas question
I am serious and stop calling me Shirley....
yeah I am never saying another word...I have been long hauled twice....the first time I was pissed but paid the full fare and gave a tip...shitty one but still....the second time I argued(he too acted lost and said he only knew how to get there from the highway) but the fare was $21 and I told him it should have been about $12-$14...so I paid him that....no tip
now knowing what I know I will gladly let them take me the long way....and then say let's just go ahead and call the T.A. and see what they think

Re: vegas question
Wow! I have never experienced any of that with cab rides in Vegas. Maybe I've been lucky or it's the Asian guy that can speak good English... watch out for him! Of course, I don't recall the times that I have been completely hammered and may have possibly tipped the cabbie 200% of the fare.
