You could have bet the flop, I imagine. Unlike limit poker where pot sizes are measured in the end with made bets of predetermined size, the thing with big bet poker is that you can "make up" for previous streets with a bet of any size later. So, the answer is no. You got from the opponent as much as he was comfortable, or maybe a little uncomfortable, with losing.
