I hate to complain, but it sure doesn't feel like I win in these spots 83% of the time.......I lost a majority of my chips a few hands earlier because I was outkicked.......time for another break I guess.

Not much you can do there... I might re-pop it pre-flop but as played you played it fine. Not much else you can do.

unfortunate, but like Danny said, you played it fine. Sometimes those back door draws can be deadly. At least it wasn't a one outer. Those just burn me up.

I have no regrets about the way I played it, just posted it last night out of pure frustration.

There was a guy at the table that was real active and I had lost 2 decent sized(in proportion with blinds of course!) pots to him. In the first one I may have layed down the best hand after raising his bet on the flop. Still unsure if it was the correct play, but I was left with well over half my buy-in so I figured I would find a better spot. A couple hands later I lost my 2nd pot to him when I had top pair jack kicker to his top top.....at this point I was under half my buy in, but not by much. I started raising quite a few pots and winning just enough blinds to justify the raises, plus a few squeeze plays....a little better than treading water.

Thats when I ran into the hand I posted.

The preflop raise definately came into my line of thinking, I just didn't like it in this spot. With 20 BB you are committing yourself to the hand preflop if he pushes all in. I hate to get in a coin flip when I can continue to whittle away and eventually find a dominating spot to win a big pot. If he calls I don't like my spot either. I would have approximately 1/2 my stack in with a drawing hand out of position......what do you do if the flop is Q56 rainbow? You can check hoping he checks behind, or you can push in your entire stack. If he's getting 4-1 on a call is there a hand he folds here(that you beat)? Better yet how would a call be from you if he pushes after you check getting 4-1? If you can justify a call then pushing is probably the correct play. What kind of odds would you have to get here to justify a call? Why? Now last but not least if he folds(rare at these stakes btw) I feel like 3 BB is not enough value for a hand that good to a player I felt with give me his stack with marginal holdings......especially since my table image at the time was loose/donkey.

Anyways not to ramble too much, but I think this is a very common spot to be in and I would be curious to hear what other people think about different lines, or if they see a hole in any of the comments above PLEASE fill me in.......I am driving myself crazy trying to learn this game!

The only question I have would be: Is 4FingerWu's re-raise +EV?

Normally I would say no way, but as soon as I flopped top boat I decided to try and sell a river bluff......typically the best I expect here is a call. Does anyone here re-raise with 78?
