Dammit, SO close
Just went out of the JokerStars $200k guarantee in 28th place (22100 runners) when my AQ couldn't catch up to 88. I blogged about it...so gross, because he almost folded, and I'd folded 99 the previous hand in midposition, when the same player had raised 3x big blind....all because I let my wife talk me out of it. Dammit. I'm not on tilt, but kinda pissed that I let someone else influence a poker decision, that close to SERIOUS money. 1st would have been $22k, and even 12th would have net a grand.
Even worse, I *think* he had 88 the hand before, and I was actually crushing him, from the chat.
Oh yeah, at the same time, I went out 11th in a Full Tilt Early Double, when I got 3 outed on the river for a 3rd place stack. $74 instead of several hundred, gg me.

Damn Mondo that is close! Still an incredible finish in that field! Take it for what it is man, a nice cash and a great result in that field.

Wow! Awesome run in that tournament! Now you've broken the top 100 twice in that tourney which is a feat in itself.
My wife used to influence my decision while I was posturing a call as well, but I never let her swing me away from my decision. She did occasionally rib me for making a call or fold that would have otherwise win or save me chips. Never kick a poker player while he's down.
Great run Mondo! What did the finish net you?

28th paid $398 -- 27th would have paid about $440.
The sick part is that I was 5th in chips with 33 remaining, but ended up doubling the stack an orbit before, when I held AK on the button and he held AA in the small blind. In fact, twice I'd doubled him up.
The player who knocked me out did end up taking 1st, so there's no shame. Still, considering how long it took him to call my shove, I think I may have just had enough FE the hand before for him to have folded to my 99, ugh.
Nice week overall, in that I took my stars roll from $20 to $900, but I'm desperately trying to get a roll to play the $50 buyins, and a final table yesterday would have done it.
Still, I've never had 3,000,000+ chips in a tourney before (I think I once hit 3.4m), that was kinda cool, just to have a stack that big, especially given 3k in starting chips.

If it makes you feel better, I managed to crush 99 last night with a miracle turn card.
I was SS (about 5xBB) in middle position and get dealt A8 spades. Table had tightened up as we were approaching the bubble so I pushed. SB woke up with 99 and called (he was 3rd biggest stack in the tourney, largest at the table).
Flop came out 889, turn 8, river X. I ended up 3rd in that tourney.
