So I have been thinking since I bought chips for tourneys and cash games I shoud probly host a tourney but not a NL toureny if at all possible. I have devised a new toureny. Similar to HORSE only no Stud/8b and with Triple Draw. I call it SHORT (Stud, Hold em, Omaha hi/lo, Razz, Triple Draw).

Now all I need to do is figure a good ante/blind structure.

Any ideas? I am just throwing this out there for now, bored at work, thinking about poker.

the problem is that people would have to sit out in triple draw...that is fine in a cash game but would suck in a tournament....unless you played this 6 handed which might be more fun anyway...

we have a great HORSE tourney structure somewhere I'll see if anyone still has it.

Did you just mention Hold em? Are you feeling ok? You would allow this in a structure you created? I thought maybe you were a little off since you've staked me, but this definately confirms it.

Maybe a SORT (Stud, omaha, razz, triple draw). Very Happy

round 1 stud - 25/25/10
round 2 hold em - 25/50
round 3 omaha 8 - 50/100
round 4 Razz - 50/100/10
round 5 Triple Draw - 75/150
round 5 stud - 75/150/25
round 6 hold em - 100/200
round 7 omaha 8 - 150/300
round 8 razz - 150/300/25
round 9 triple draw - 200/400
round 10 stud 200/400/50
round 11 hold em - 250/300
round 12 omaha 8- 300/600
round 13 razz 300/600/50
round 14 triple draw 400/800
round 15 stud 400/800/75

Does this blind structure look okay or just crazy? I will be honest and say I have never run a tournament mixing ante games with blind games. I did leave out the bring ins for the stud games and will add those later but I just had to write down a structure to get an idea of how this game would be run. I would use a HORSE tourney structure but hte games are in different order and there are differnt games etc.. it just wouldn't work. so... Any ideas?

one thing you could try would be to print off the pokerstars HORSE format and use it for comparison. I know they post the blind levels for hold em tourneys, so I would imagine they post the structure for HORSE.

The reason this wont work is that in my format the game starts as stud. in HORSE it starts as hold em so we already have a difference. I understand what you are saying, trust me I wish it was that easy, but horse has 3 stud games, 2 flop games. Even if I tried to put my games in the same order it wouldn't work so it is time to create a new structure. Mine has 2 stud and 3 flop (I am calling Triple Draw a flop game here simply because the blinds are the same as a flop game.)

See what I'm talking about? I am jsut trying to make a structure incase I try and run a crazy tourney like this some day Very Happy

I quite like your proposed structure levels.

And I love the format overall, though I hate hate hate hate hate hate stud.

Did I mention I hate stud?

But I'd play a tourney at those levels.

I really enjoy stud format games, espescially live, but I do think HORSE is a little stud heavy. I think triple draw evens it out.

I agree that Horse is stud heavy. Razz, Stud then Stud 8's or better? Way too much, especially back to back to back. Breaking it up over the "SHORT" format I think would be a great game. If you want we could debate it a bit friday night.

Yeah. I mean we are playing the same games, but I know people like the excitment of a tournament, and I do enjoy a tournament as well, just not hold em.

I think this idea works really well. For the most part you would have 1 stud game and 1 draw game per level:

1) Stud, HE
2) Om, Rz
3) TD, Stud
4) HE, Om <--only level without a stud game
5) Rz, TD
pattern repeats at 1

round 1 stud - 25/25/10 - 10 bring in
round 2 hold em - 25/50
round 3 omaha 8 - 50/100
round 4 Razz - 50/100/10 - 30
round 5 Triple Draw - 75/150
round 5 stud - 75/150/25 - 40
round 6 hold em - 100/200
round 7 omaha 8 - 150/300
round 8 razz - 150/300/25 - 75
round 9 triple draw - 200/400
round 10 stud 200/400/50 - 100
round 11 hold em - 250/300
round 12 omaha 8- 300/600
round 13 razz 300/600/50 - 150
round 14 triple draw 400/800
round 15 stud 400/800/75 - 200

Ideas for the bring ins. It's kinda hard to do a bring in with the blinds so small in the begining. Any suggestions?

The problem is that the level has to change between stud games and flop games as you cannot make a structure that accounts for antes and blinds when the amount of players is constantly changing. I am thinking just very soft increases every level rather than increasing the blinds every other level.

Honestly I would rather see hold em eliminated rather than Stud 8....Stud 8 is probably my favorite of the 5 games in HORSE

And if you eliminate hold 'em you would end up with SORT and alternate between stud games and draw games. Might make things easier for increasing levels for tourney play.

heh.. I know it sounds good, but then we can't use a HORSE blind structure. I like SHORT, I jsut need to build a blind structure. It shouldn't be that hard. The one I put up earlier took no longer than 5 minutes to spew out.

The WSOP is having the button pay $100 as the table ante in this year's $1500 HORSE in the first round of RSE. In other words the limits are 50-100 with the bring in at 25 and completion at 50.

wow is this only the first round? I have heard of running a stud game like this, simply having the dealer post all of the antes, as it goes around it is very similar to blinds only there is no fixed positions in stud. That is a great idea. thank you wetdog!

So using Wetdogs idea how about this? Another super rough draft.

Rd. 1 Limit Stud - 25/25/ - 10 bring in - dealer posts 40 ante
Rd. 2 Limit Hold em - 25/50
Rd. 3 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo - 50/100

break

Rd. 4 Limit Razz - 50/100/20 - 25 bring in
Rd. 5 Limit Triple Draw 2-7 - 75/150
Rd. 6 Limit Stud - 75/150/25 - 40 bring in

break - race off T10 ante chips

Rd. 7 Limit Hold em - 100/200
Rd. 8 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo - 150/300
Rd. 9 Limit Razz - 150/300/25 - 75 bring in

break

Rd. 10 Limit Triple Draw 2-7 200/400
Rd. 11 Limit Stud - 200/400/50 - 100 bring in
Rd. 12 Limit Hold em - 250/500

break

Rd. 13 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo - 300/600
Rd. 14 Limit Razz - 300/600/50 - 150 bring in
Rd. 15 Limit Triple Draw 2-7 - 400/800

break

Rd. 16 Limit Stud - 400/800/75 - 200 bring in
Rd. 17 Limit Hold em - 500/1000
Rd. 18 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo - 600/1200

break - race off T25 chips

Rd. 19 Limit Razz - 600/1200/100 - bring in 300
Rd. 20 Limit Triple Draw - 700/1400

I tried to make the blinds as slow as possible as well allowing for some play. People who don't have a lot of experience in limit tourneys highly underestimate just how rough limit tourneys are! The breaks are thrown in for a 20 minute structure. I know I have always said I hate fast structures but I don't think they are as bad in a mixed game. I also figure this would work with a 30 minute structure as the breaks could simply be every 1 1/2 hours as opposed to every hour without people getting bitchy. The WSOP is one 15 minute break every 2 hours so I dont see a problem there.
