Heartland Poker Tour @ the Gates
http://heartlandpokertour.com/eventinfo.php?yid=2008&eid=19
Qualifiers look very similar to the qualifiers they had before. I suggest playing the $80 single table satellites as opposed to the $40 as your chances are just so much better when top 2 make the qualifier. I have a baby due April 3rd so I will play if I can. So who is planning on playing?

I want to attempt at least one,if not two qualifiers. Not sure what my schedule looks like just yet.

Re: Heartland Poker Tour @ the Gates
I will say that I had a lot of sucess in the qualifiers late time HPT was in town. I played in 7 total, qualified for 4 of the $340 buy ins. The 80 are much better for a couple reasons....2 players advance, the juice is much lower
$34 + 11 is crazy
$68 + 12 isn't great, but not nearly as bad as the 1 person qualifier.
So I took those 4 $300 + 40 buy-ins and played 3, wife played 1, and got two main event seats. I decided to take my profit at $1500/seat at that point and relaxed the weekend with guaranteed money. I know PoWda cashed and that's great for him. I was just as pleased to not have to grind out another bunch of hours to make the money.
The blinds for the SNG get really high at 2000-4000 with only 15000 on the table. For those that are used to online play, obviously there are far less hands in 10 min rounds but there is still a LOT of action. Be careful early and I advise to stab at the blinds when they are more valuable in the middle rounds when people are trying to hold on. I know this is fairly basic NLHE strategy, but it works very well.
I wish I was going to be playing again, but alas, after the car accident in January, and still stuck in bed, there will be no HPT for me. Maybe they can allow me to play via this great world wide web that Al Gore created
One last thought...if you are planning on playing multiple SNG while you are there, sign up for them while you are waiting for your first one to start so you don't have to wait the 2 or 3 hours between tables. It's not hard to figure out how often they start and about when you should register for another one.
Good luck at the Gates

Re: Heartland Poker Tour @ the Gates
I just got a federal jury summons for the WHOLE month of April. Shit that sucks. It's week-by-week though so I might be able to do the $80s. I have to call in Friday afternoons to see if I have to go in.
Re: Heartland Poker Tour @ the Gates
Thanks for the advice kkravec! Yes I did cash last time but I also won my first sattelite attempt, won the first qualifier, and went on to cash in the main so I didn't mess around too much I do think that playing the qualifiers are good money though. If you can get a bunch of the $340 seats you can turn around and sell them if you end up winning a main seat so those can add up. Like I said I have a baby coming but that might work to my advantage. My work is giving me all the time off I want so maybe instead of going directly back to work I take an extra week and go cash in on some $80 single tables Just an idea but you do bring up a great point.. Those sinle tables are gravy if you have the time to play a bunch.
Re: Heartland Poker Tour @ the Gates
I'll be up there for most of the two week qualifications. Last time I was only able to attend the three days before the Sunday qualifier. I qualified and busted 3 spots before the top 20% when I got my short stack all in with AK and lost a race against 10's.
This year I plan on playing a lot of the $80 sit-n-go's and hopefully sell a seat and play a few qualifiers. No way am I not making the ME this year! Besides, I owe Jamal a few bad beats that he put me on last year for third place finishes.
Give me a holler Danny or anyone else for that matter if you want to car pool.

Re: Heartland Poker Tour @ the Gates
I'm debating trying to take one shot at directly buying into a $340 qualifier. I'll be within six weeks of a big trial in Ohio, and won't have 2-3 days to take off work to spend pissing around the $80s, and frankly, my single table SNG record isn't anything to be too proud of. But my recording of finishing in top 20% is strong, so I think my ROI would be better just jumping in at that level.
That said, if I do win my ME seat in the $340, I could try a couple of $80s afterwards, just to try to recoup my $340...

There's a pretty good chance that I'll try the $80 sats on the 28th or 29th. I may be able to get a kitchen pass since the 28th is my birthday and I'm really old.....like almost dead old......social security here I come......etc.

Re: Heartland Poker Tour @ the Gates
Just received word that I may be in NJ on a business trip for the 27 - 30th at the end of the month. That's the reason I missed most of the qualifiers during the first HPT event. Makes me crazy that I would have to back in NJ of all places and miss the qualifiers again! Oh well, it still leaves me some time at the start of April to play.
Re: Heartland Poker Tour @ the Gates
Doesn't NJ = AC? Also the events will still be going strong when you get back.. It sucks you have to miss the initial sattelites but there will still be plenty of play left in the tourney when you get back.Scrupboy wrote:Just received word that I may be in NJ on a business trip for the 27 - 30th at the end of the month. Re: Heartland Poker Tour @ the Gates
I'll be closer to NY meaning a 2.5 hour drive to AC. Last time out there almost took the trip with a 6 hour window. How sick is that? lolPoWdA wrote:Doesn't NJ = AC? Looks like I'll be able to pawn this off to the Software Developer. Did the old, I'm too busy to go on this trip. If someone else is capable to relay the information to me, let him/her go. Crossing fingers.
Re: Heartland Poker Tour @ the Gates
I heard a dealer talking about HPT being fined or having to pay fines before they were able to come back to BH. Something about allowing players to sell their seats to the ME. Has anyone else heard about this? Does this mean we will not be able to transfer seats to the ME?
Re: Heartland Poker Tour @ the Gates
What? I never heard about this but the ME seats did have 3 lines on them just for the purpose of signing them over to other people. Those things were designed to be won and sold. I never heard about them getting in trouble for it. I would think the gates would take the heat... Not the HPT.Scrupboy wrote:I heard a dealer talking about HPT being fined or having to pay fines before they were able to come back to BH. Has anyone heard anything? I would love to know what is going on before I go up there and win 10 seats

Well, you're only selling 2 of 10 and backing the Poker In Colorado forum with the other 7 extras, right?
